To test by applying a knowledge of sketching and rendering to a design problem

T2 LEARNING OBJECTIVE RUBRIC
Learning Area: (DVC)TECHNOLOGY

Indicators of Progression
Apply knowledge and a single skill  to solve a given design outcome.
4
Implement a basic procedure (one) to produce a design outcome that meets specification
Skillfully implement a basic procedure (one) to produce a design outcome that meets specification
Efficiently implement a basic procedure (one) to produce a design outcome that meets specification

DVC
Freehand sketching
Produce freehand sketches that communicate functional and / or aesthetic features of their design

• with a 2D view,
• and 3D form using isometric or oblique drawing methods
• using sketching techniques such as: crating.
Produce freehand sketches that also clearly

• show functional features such as structure
• show aesthetic features such as shape, form,
Produce freehand sketches that effectively shows  visual information that:

• conveys the intent (meaning / purpose) of the design ideas

Rendering
Communicate the form of design ideas by indicating some tonal change to show the object’s shape.

Indicators of Progression
Select appropriate skills and knowledge needed and apply them to produce specified outcome
5
Implement and combine (two skills), using specific skills knowledge to produce a specified design outcome
Skilfully implement and combine (two skills), using specific skills knowledge to produce a specified design outcome
Efficiently implement and combine (two skills), using specific skills knowledge to produce a specified design outcome.
Follow a set of techniques to produce a design outcome that meets specifications
Showing accuracy in the execution of the techniques and tests.
Undertaking techniques and tests in a manner that economise time, effort and resources.

DVC
Freehand sketching
Produce freehand sketches that communicate functional and / or aesthetic features of their design

• with 2D views,
• and 3D form using isometric and oblique drawing methods
• using sketching techniques such as: crating, use of line hierarchy.
Produce freehand sketches that also clearly

• show functional features such as construction, structure, use and operation
• show aesthetic features such as shape, form, texture and surface finish.
Produce freehand sketches that effectively shows  visual information that:

• conveys the intent (meaning / purpose) of the design ideas

Includes one of the following: exploded views, sectional, sequential, detail, assembly, etc.

Rendering
Communicate the form of design ideas by indicating some tonal change to show the object’s shape.
Communicate the form of design ideas by indicating the tonal qualities to show the object’s shape.
Communicate the form of design ideas by using rendering techniques to convincingly communicate shape and surface qualities.

Indicators of Progression
Applying skills and knowledge to test and refine, applying these to produce specified outcome.
6
Implement basic procedures using specific skills knowledge to produce a specified design outcome
Skilfully implement basic procedures using specific skills knowledge to produce a specified design outcome
Efficiently implement basic procedures using specific skills knowledge to produce a specified design outcome.
Follow a set of techniques to produce a design outcome that meets specifications
Showing independence (application) and accuracy in the execution of the techniques and tests.
Undertaking techniques and tests in a manner that economise time, effort and resources.
Test and refine (several iterations) as appropriate to demonstrate a design outcome meets specifications. Design ideas refer to student-generated responses to a design brief.
Showing independence with regard to decision making through their design process.

DVC
Freehand sketching
Produce freehand sketches that explore and communicate functional and / or aesthetic features of their design

• with 2D views,
• and 3D form using isometric, oblique or perspective, drawing methods
• using sketching techniques such as: crating, use of line hierarchy and quick rendering.
Produce freehand sketches that also clearly

are in proportion
• show functional features such as construction, structure, use and operation
• show aesthetic features such as shape, form, texture and surface finish.
Produce freehand sketches that effectively shows in-depth visual information that:

• conveys the intent (meaning / purpose) of the design ideas
• is in the form of related sketches, for example: exploded views, sectional, sequential, detail, assembly, etc.
Rendering
Communicate the form of design ideas by indicating the tonal qualities produced by an identified light source and its three dimensional effects on the object’s shape and surface qualities.
Clearly communicate the form of design ideas by consistently applying rendering techniques to communicate an objects shape and surface qualities.
Effectively communicate the form of design ideas by skilfully applying rendering techniques to convincingly communicate shape and surface qualities, enhancing the realistic representation of design qualities to an audience.
